5 days of ice climbing in Cogne

This Icefall course is also suitable for people who want discover the Cascade de Glace only to those who already have a little experience in this unusual activity since they will be able toAnd climb to the top of the rope in order to gradually become autonomous. Chamonix is a very suitable site for The Icefall since it offers a wide variety of fields that will allow you to acquire very rich gestures.In case of bad weather in France or if you wish, we can carry out this course of Icefall in Italy in Val de Cogne, about 1 hour from Chamonix. This site is also superb, offering a large number of ice waterfalls of all levels.

OUR +: All our guides are very good teachers. They will be eager to make you progress individually During this Chamonix Ice Fall.

We'll see during this Icefall week How:

  • Evolve in an ice cascade up to grades IV+ to V.
  • Dry-tooling* climb fairly easy sections (M3 to M4),
  • Ensuring a second and a first of cordée,
  • Carry out a safe reminder
  • Create reliable relays,
  • Perform an abalakov (ice lunula, allowing you to abseil down waterfalls).

Day 1

Icefall: Right side: 220m, grade 4+ to 5 > Cogne

Meet at 7:15am in Chamonix with all the equipment and departure in the direction of Valnontey, above the village of Cogne and at the foot of Grand Paradis. After an hour and 20 minutes of approach we will arrive at the foot of this beautiful 5-length ice waterfall “Patrie de Droite”, offering passages at 90° over 10m. Night in a cottage in Cogne.

Day 2

Lillaz gully: 220m, grade 4 in ice and M4+ (M = mixed climbing, ice and rock) > Cogne

For this 2nd day of internship, we will go to the right bank of Valeille. It will take us 1 hour 15 minutes to reach the foot of this chute. It is a superb varied itinerary with a beautiful atmosphere and a breathtaking view of Mont-Blanc. Night in a cottage.

Day 3

Ice fall: Tuborg: 220m, grade 5 > Cogne

This time we will go to the left bank of Valeille. A short approach of 40 minutes will take us to the start of this beautiful waterfall of 5 lengths. It starts with a 50m wall at 85°. Higher up, you can try climbing in the lead, in 75° lengths. Night at the cottage.

Day 4

Icefall: Il Candelabro de Coyote: 180m, grade 4+/5 > Cogne

Today we head back to the left bank of Valeille. After 40 minutes we will be at the foot of this waterfall. On the program 2 very beautiful ice cigars, with passages from 10m to 90°. The arms will get hot. Night at the cottage

Day 5

Icefall: Super repentance: 220m, grade 6 > Valnontey

To finish this course in Cogne in style, we will carry out “Super Repentance” on the right bank of Valnontey. This magnificent ice fall is a reference grade 6. The most difficult length is a superb 30m column at 90°. Return to Chamonix and review of the ice climbing course at the end of the day.
